The School Concert
As a former English teacher who has worked with Middle and High Schoolers, OkCello is excellent at tailoring his performances for all ages - toddlers through grad students.
He can play to large auditoriums and small classes, and his music, storytelling, stage presence, and audience management play well in a variety of communities and cultures.
His shows can be as short as 20 minutes or as long as 90, and every school concert ends in what is usually a lively Q&A period.
-
The Master Class
Often after a school wide concert, OkCello is invited into specific classes, where he gives a more detailed presentation in one of several areas:
Improvising for Classical Musicians, Looping and Pro-Audio for Orchestral Instruments, Alternative Professions for Classically Trained Musicians, Storytelling with Sound Rather Than Words, Song Writing as a Tool for Identity Discovery and other Social Justice/DEI uses, Art Creation that Denies the Existence of the Box.
Students of all ages, but especially highschoolers appreciate these opportnities for in depth exploration.
-
The Residency
Occasionally, OkCello is invited to be a partner in an extended project with schools that would like to accomplish something more involved or ambitious than just a concert or a few master classes. These engagements turn into residencies where there is a curriculum that is executed over several weeks. OkCello has had the honor of working in residency with the Children’s Museum and Centennial Academy Charter School, Emory’s Center for Ethics and their Arts and Social Justice Fellowship, and the Paideia School.
OkCello would love to envision a residency with your school that creates a deeper learning experience for your students.
